Brian May in hospital: Why was Brian May taken to hospital?
What happened to Brian May?
Brian May revealed on Instagram he had been hospitalised, which is incredibly frightening given the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Many were fearing the worst for the 72-year-old, however, it turns out his injury has been caused by something far less frightening.
Like many of us, it seems the guitarist has been getting some gardening done, and an over-exuberance in this activity caused him to injury his buttocks, so badly he is struggling to walk.
The injury seems to be serious enough for May to have been forced to stay in hospital, though now he is home and struggles to walk or get on with daily life due to the “relentless” pain.
Speaking on Instagram, his full post read: “Reality check! For me. No – the Virus didn’t get me yet – thank God.
“Hope you’re all keeping extra-safe out there. A decision to relax controls doesn’t suddenly make the danger go away.
“But me?? Yes, I’ve been quiet. Reason? As well as getting over-stretched and harassed by too many demands … I managed to rip my Gluteus Maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening.
“So suddenly I find myself in a hospital getting scanned to find out exactly how much I’ve actually damaged myself.
“Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while … or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless.
“So, folks … I need to go dark for a while, getting some complete rest, at home.
“Please, please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while.
The Rhapsody Tour, which features Queen and singer Adam Lambert, has already been rescheduled to 2021, with most dates being moved back an entire year.
The tour was meant to begin in Italy in May 2020 and included huge gigs in The O2 in London before the tour concluded in Madrid in July.
However, this has now been moved to begin on May 23 in 2021 in Italy, and will still include 10 dates in London and the final Madrid dates in July 2021.
With May’s injury turning out to be worse than he thought, fans will be worrying the tour may be rescheduled again.
However, given he has time now to recuperate at home, hopefully, he will be fighting fit for the performances in a year’s time.
