Bumblebee sequel: Director confirms ideas for Bumblebee 2 as Transformers prequel releases

The Transformers prequel has an A- grade on CinemaScore and a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It may have struggled to compete with Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns during its US opening weekend, but studio bosses are confident it can leave a mark in the days and weeks ahead. So will Hailee Steinfeld et al be back?

Director Travis Knight revealed in a recent interview that, while nothing is officially green-lit, he does have ideas.

There is a gap in the timeline between the end of Bumblebee and the start of Michael Bay’s first Transformers film.

Asked if there is more that could be explored in that timeframe in a Bumblebee sequel, he told Cinema Blend: “I think it certainly could be.

“I mean, when I get to the end of one of my movies, I always imagine what’s next for the characters.

“And so, in my mind, I’ve got all these scenarios and adventures that play out, both with Charlie and with Bee and everyone else.

“We’ll see if the world wants more. Maybe we’ll explore some of those things.”

Hailee Steinfeld has said she too is interesting in coming back to play Charlie again.

She told Hey U Guys: “I think that Charlie Watson is one person when we meet her in the beginning and another at the end.

“And I think she has a long way to go and a lot more to say so I would love to see where we take this.”

She also provided the lead single from the song’s soundtrack; Back To Life.

The Oscar nominee is joined in the film’s cast by John Cena, John Ortiz, Rachel Crow and the voices of Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux.
