Amidst the chaos wrought by Thanos in the latest instalment of the Avengers series, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) are desperately trying to figure out what is going on.

The Avengers have been left with a depleted team after Thanos’ hunt for the six infinity stones comes to a climactic and shocking end.

As all hope is lost, Nick Fury calls upon a special friend to help save the universe.

Fury grabs a retro looking device from the back of his car and activates it, seconds before disappearing to dust.

The pager beeps slowly before a bright flash of blue, red and gold appear on the screen with a white insignia on the front.

What are Captain Marvel’s powers?

Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, has a lot of superhuman powers – some of which could be invaluable to the fate of the Avengers.

She got her powers when an explosion caused her DNA to meld with her co-officer’s, a Kree alien named Mar-Vell.

The Kree are a race of blue-faced aliens, technologically and scientifically far more advanced than humans.

Captain Marvel’s powers include enhanced strength, durability and the ability to fire photonic energy blasts from her hands.

She also has a cosmic sixth sense allowing her to anticipate her opponent’s moves, and her human/Kree hybrid physiology makes her resistant to most toxins and poisons.

Her normal human powers? Being one great fighter pilot.
