Captain Marvel trailer: Who is the villain in Captain Marvel?
When the new trailer for Captain Marvel dropped, it threw a lot of long-held assumptions out of the window. The clip also gave us a glimpse into the world Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, will be defending. The film takes place in the 1990s; though it is a fact long known by fans, the setting had caused some confusion. After all, Avengers 4, in which Captain Marvel will cameo, takes place in the present day.
Who is the main villain in the Captain Marvel movie?
The new trailer, and a leak from the Funko toy company, have made fans question their belief about the real villain in Captain Marvel.
Previously, everyone assumed the main villain would be played by Ben Mendelsohn.
The villain is Talos, a Skrull leader who wages war on the Kree, as well as Earth.
Captain Marvel, her mentor Mar-Vell, and the elite Kree Star Force are the good guys, out to defend Earth and the Kree.

Until now, it was assumed Mar-Vell would be played by Jude Law.
However, the aforementioned leak from Funko revealed that Law’s Pop! figurine was actually named Yon-Rogg.
In the comics, Yon-Rogg is a Kree Star Force commander, which is in line with what Law has said about his character.
But he is also the antithesis to Mar-Vell, and deeply jealous, as well as filled with hatred, towards the Kree hero.
CAPTAIN MARVEL TRAILER: 3 THINGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED IN THE TRAILER
It is apparent that Captain Marvel is battling the Skrulls – after all, she punches one posing as an old woman.
But fans have speculated that, though Talos may be a villain, the main villain will be Law’s Yon-Rogg.
The trailer showed Law in a rather ambiguous light, which makes sense given Rogg’s history in the comics.
On the page, Yon-Rogg did fight side-by-side with Mar-Vell, and it would make sense for him to view Captain Marvel as a mentee, as Law has stated previously.
CAPTAIN MARVEL TRAILER: WHERE CAN YOU WATCH CAPTAIN MARVEL TRAILER?
Perhaps there will be two villains, or Rogg is being set up as the main villain in a potential Captain Marvel sequel.
No one knows for sure, but we’ll find out when the movie is released in the spring.
For now, speculation remains rife around who Jude Law is actually playing.
Since the leak, Funko has changed the name of their figurine to Starforce Commander.
The name is accurate regardless of whether Law plays Yon-Rogg or Mar-Vell.
The trailer hints that the film will focus on Carol figuring out how she became the hero she is, so the villain may turn out to be her very own mind…
Captain Marvel is out in UK cinemas on March 8, 2019.
