Celebrity Secrets with Nashville actress Clare Bowen
Which beauty products do you swear by?
I always use a good moisturiser, and I’m fine with anything as long as it’s cruelty-free so it hasn’t been tested on animals and isn’t full of chemicals.
What are your essential cosmetics for when you’re on stage?
One of the decisions I made a long time ago is that when I’m performing as myself, I always want to look like the real me.
I enjoy playing with make-up when I’m on television, but on stage I wear very little – just some tinted moisturiser, a bit of blush and a lot of biodegradable glitter by the UK brand It’s In Your Dreams.
How glam are you when you’re in the recording studio?
There’s a lovely Australian brand called Spell & The Gypsy Collective who make what you’d probably call glamorous beach wear.
It’s really important to be comfortable in the studio, so I’m always in something I can move around in.
A lot of the time I’ll be dancing and thinking about how I’ll eventually be presenting the music on stage.
Do you diet?
I have coeliac disease, so staying gluten-free is really important.
But I don’t think of it as dieting; it’s a lifestyle.
How do you stay in shape?
I ride horses and I don’t use a saddle.
The balance you need for that works muscles I didn’t even know were there.
I also love running, but my favourite thing is lifting weights – kettlebells, barbells and resistance training.
How do you pamper yourself?
By spending time with my husband Brandon and my friends.
And I try to be out in nature as much as possible.
I’m not much of a party animal, unless I’m on stage.
How would you describe your style?
Sometimes I look like a bit of a sparkle explosion and sometimes I look like a 12-year-old boy.
I’m not sure how you’d describe it!
What is the most you’ve ever spent on an item of clothing?
There’s a wonderful designer in Nashville named Manuel and I had a beautiful Manuel jacket made for Brandon last year, which has a white buffalo dream sequence on it.
I won’t tell you how much it cost because Brandon might read this.
Have you had any fashion disasters?
People aren’t going to like everything you wear and I’ve learned to not care about that.
But I do think your whole night can be ruined by bad shoes.
Who are your style icons?
I love Dolly Parton.
She’s the queen of sparkle and the most beautiful person you could ever meet.
And my mum is pretty incredible.
Clare’s debut album is out now. She is touring the UK until September 13.
