Celtic legend Chris Sutton makes title race prediction as Rangers leapfrog arch-rivals
Celtic’s race to the Scottish Premiership title against Rangers will likely have a number of twists and turns along the way, according to Hoops legend Chris Sutton.
It’s “game on” for the title this season, despite it appearing that Celtic had nailed down the trophy in the Old Firm derby earlier this month, he claimed.
Rangers are now two points clear of Celtic at the top of the table, after they capitalised on two poor performances from Neil Lennon’s side.
Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw at Hibernian at the end of September, and were then beaten 2-0 by Livingston last weekend.
“Make no mistake, it’s game on for the title this season,” Sutton wrote for the Daily Record. “The last couple of weeks have proved it.
“It wasn’t so long ago it seemed Celtic had reinforced their superiority with the win at Ibrox.
“But a couple of poor results against Hibs and Livingston and the pendulum has swung the other way.
“I’ve got no doubt it will happen a good few times over the course of the campaign.
“There is going to be slip-ups from both sides from time to time.
“It will come down to which team stumbles the least – not just the Old Firm head-to-heads.”
Rangers have won successive Premiership matches 5-0, against both Aberdeen and Hamilton.
They’ve won all of their league matches since the Old Firm derby on September 1, which they lost 2-0.
Sutton also admitted that Rangers have a wealth of attacking options, and it’s a good position for Steven Gerrard to be in.
Jermain Defoe is currently the league’s highest goalscorer, having score nine goals in eight matches.
Alfredo Morelos is averaging a goal every 79 minutes as well, having been on the scoresheet five times.
