Cost of Meghan Markle’s wedding dress said to be this sum – far more than Kate Middleton’s

Meghan Markle wore a wedding dress made by Givenchy.

The brands first ever female chief designer crafted the classic gown for the Duchess of Sussex.

While it was suggested that Meghan would chose a cheaper dress than Kate Middleton, it seems that keeping costs low was not a priority when it came to the dress.

What is more, Meghan had a second dress also worth a huge sum.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Meghan’s chapel dress cost £387,000 while the dress for her reception is estimated to be worth £119,555.

Meghan’s second dress was created by vegan designer, the environmentally friendly Stella McCartney.

The overall cost of her wardrobe was estimated to be £750,000.

Biographer Katie Nicholl told ET: “It does fall now, that she is married into the royal family, to the Prince of Wales…to cover the cost of her working royal wardrobe.

“It may be that Meghan contributed certainly some of the costs for either of those wedding dresses, or perhaps both of those wedding dresses, I believe was also picked up by the palace.

“Meghan is now an ambassador for the royal family. Look at the publicity she has brought in run up to the wedding. I’d argue that’s worth every penny.”

However, Nicholl previously claimed Meghan’s dress would not cost more than Kate’s.

She also told Entertainment Tonight: “There have been reports that [Meghan’s] considering spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a wedding dress. I think that’s incredibly unlikely.

“Kate Middleton’s dress cost 150,000 pounds. It was her parents, Carol and Michael Middleton, who paid for that bill.

“I think it was very unlikely that Meghan would spend more than that and in doing so try and upstage a future queen.”

Reports circulating prior to the wedding suggest Meghan Markle would wear a Ralph & Russo custom gown. 

The company’s custom creations cost up to £320,000.

The Duchess of Sussex was spotted this weekend at Cowarth Park Polo Club in Ascot, where she attended the Audi Polo Cup.

She matched the casual outfit with her well-worn Panama hat and big black sunglasses.

During the day Meghan was spotted crouching down to talk to a little girl, reported to be former Welsh Guards Officer Mark Dyer’s daughter, Isabella.
