Deadwood film on HBO: First TRAILER, release date and cast – When is Deadwood on HBO?

It’s almost time to head back to the very wild (and dangerous) West. Deadwood fans are eager for more South Dakota devious and dirty doings and finally got their first proper look at what to expect today. Although the original show was cancelled back in 2016 after three seasons, it has been credited with ushering in the new modern golden age TV era of anti-heroes and gritty unflinching dramas. But what should fans expect this time around – and when?

WILL DEADWOOD HAVE THE SAME CAST?

The great news is that almost all the original cast are back, including the utterly irreplaceable leading man Ian McShane as Al Swearengen, a role which won him the 2005 Best Actor Golden Globe.

Timothy Olyphant returns as Seth Bullock with Molly Parker as Alma Ellsworth and W Earl Brown as Dan Dority.

Brown set pulses racing when he tweeted: “I just read the final draft. Holy. S**t. In the course of those two hours, my emotions ricocheted in every f***** direction: exhilaration to melancholy; hoots of joy to screams of despair. The Maestro has topped himself. #DeadwoodReturns.”

WHEN IS DEADWOOD BACK ON HBO?

The standalone movie will premiere on May 31, 2019.

WHAT IS THE PLOT OF DEADWOOD THE MOVIE?

HBO has released a brief synopsis: “The indelible characters of the series are reunited after 10 years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.”

WILL THE DEADWOOD MOVIE BE DONE LIKE THE TV SERIES?

The original show famously told the events of a two-week period in each season, with each one-hour episode covering one day.

The movie is two hours long and will have a less restricted format.

HOW DID THE DEADWOOD TV SHOW END?

Season 3 ended on the episode ‘Tell Him Something Pretty’ This referred to Al telling Johnny one last lie as he scrubbed poor Jen’s blood from his office floor. Ten years later may give the chance for a cathartic reckoning but it is more likely to continue to present the harsh realities of life in the West (and everywhere else).
