Deepika Padukone: Sad news – xXx star WON’T be involved in THIS huge project after all?

It was previously claimed that the star – best-known to western audiences for xXx: Return of Xander Cage – would be in the new version of the movie, which is itself an adaptation of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

She was said to be starring alongside Hrithik Roshan in the venture, directed by Farah Khan.

However, new reports claim it’s actually Katrina Kaif who’ll be taking centre stage.

According to India Today, a source revealed: “Yes, the makers were considering many top A-list actresses for the role.

“Considering that it was Hrithik Roshan and also owing to the fact that they needed to fill in the shoes of Hema Maliniji, the makers had a tough choice to make.

“But eventually, they thought Katrina would fit the bill. In fact, Katrina is quite honoured at the opportunity and she is also excited to play this interesting role.”

It should all be taken with a pinch of salt for now, though: Roshan has denied that anything has been signed just yet.

“As for Satte Pe Satta remake, those are only reports as of now,” he told DNA.

“When I sign my next film, I will tell the world about it. Until then, everything you hear is only a rumour.”

Whether or not she is involved, Padukone is still very busy – working on ’83, a biopic about the Indian cricket world cup victory in 1983, in which she will star alongside her husband Ranveer Singh.

Co-incidentally, Kaif recently denied speculation that she was initially considered for that role.

“There was no conversation around Kabir [Khan]’s film,” she told Times of India.

“I was never in talks for ’83. I know nothing about the film.”

Padukone is also working on Chhapaak, in which she plays a real life acid attack survivor.

The sequel to xXx: Return of Xander Cage – currently tentatively known as xXx 4 – has been without much significant news for several months now, having previously been rumoured for filming back in January.

Xander Cage failed to generate much box office interest in the US or UK, but a sequel was put into motion when it picked up significant success overseas.
