xXx: Return of Xander Cage star Deepika Padukone has revealed she decided to take part in the new movie because she believes there is an injustice to be explored.

She said she believes sportspeople’s family members aren’t given enough credit for their support and suffering they face living in the spotlight.

Deepika insisted while he role in the film was a minor one, she hoped it would make a difference to how spouses and the like are recognised.

Deepika is set to play the role of Romi Dev, wife to cricket star Kapil Dev.

Kapil will be played by Deepika’s real-life husband Ranveer Singh, marking the fourth film the pair are co-starring in together.

The couple’s last film together was in 2018, an epic period drama based on an Indian poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

Deepika played Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen and the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor).

The actress was speaking at the 20th edition of IIFA awards when she shared her thoughts on her new project ’83.

“Kabir thought of me for the film,” she told reporters.

“It’s a very small role but a very special role because I feel like the role of a spouse or family is not always given enough credit.

“When you look at athletes and when they win and perform on an international stage and platform,” the star went on. “The family gets very little recognition.

“Keeping that in mind I wanted to do the film.”

Deepika has already opened up about the new role and the preparation she has been doing to play the character.

She also said she will meet and speak to Kapil’s wife before she starts shooting to “understand her perspective better”.

“There isn’t a lot of material available on her,” she told the Press Trust of India.

“I have met her a few times, including our wedding reception, and I have interacted with her socially over the years.

“I am also referring to whatever material the director’s team has sent across to me.

“My parents have known their family for many years.

“So, I feel I know her and hope that she is proud and happy with the film,” Deepika added to the publication.

India won the Cricket World Cup in 1983, and depicts the events that transpired with Kapil as captain of the team when they defeated the West Indies in the final match.
