Detective Pikachu: Children in TEARS after horrifying gaffe – 'This was a massive mistake'

According to reports, a movie theatre in Motreal was due to play the new Pokemon film – but left its customers upset when a mistake led to The Curse of La Llorona being played.

The film follows a ghost who torments a social worker, and its first scene sees a mother drowning her child.

The incident allegedly took place at the Guzzo Marché Central, according to Screen Rant’s Ryan George – who happened to be in the room.

He tweeted: “This was such a massive mistake and so entertaining to watch unfold.”

Suspicions were first aroused when a trailer for horror flick Annabelle Comes Home played.

“Andddd kids are crying,” George tweeted.

The Cinemas Guzzo chain does not appear to have remarked on the incident on social media, at time of writing.

Detective Pikachu has been doing very well in its opening weekend; the first movie to dent Avengers: Endgame’s box office receipts.

The new Pokemon movie actually beat Endgame in the US yesterday, according to estimates – although the Marvel film is expected to beat its rival across the weekend as a whole.

Starring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu and Justice Smith as the human lead, the movie has fared reasonably well with critics – a rare feat for a movie based on a videogame.

The consensus on its 64% Rotten Tomatoes score reads: “Pokémon Detective Pikachu may not take its wonderfully bizarre premise as far as it could have, but this offbeat adaptation should catch most — if not all — of the franchise’s fans.”

A sequel has already been green-lit, though its exact plot and premise remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, The Curse of La Llorona – starring Linda Cardellini – has only a 30% score.

Its consensus says: “Content to coast on jump scares rather than tap into its story’s creepy potential, The Curse of La Llorona arrives in theaters already broken.”

Both movies are out now.
