Disney remakes: ALL the Disney classics are being remade – Here's the release dates
Lion King – July 19, 2019
The remake of the 1994 film is due to be released this week and stars Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala, and Donald Glover as Simba.
The film has a reimagined soundtrack, with both Elton John and composer Hans Zimmer returning to recreate the musical magic of the first film.
James Earl Jones — who voiced Mufasa in the original animated movie — will return to reprise his role as the patriarch.
Lady and the Tramp – 2019
With adorable real-life dogs, Lady and the Tramp tells the tale “an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a streetsmart, downtown stray mongrel called the Tramp, and the two embark on many romantic adventures including that iconic spaghetti smooch scene.”
Lady and the Tramp stars Justin Theroux (Tramp), Tessa Thompson (Lady), Janelle Monae (Peg, the wise-cracking pound dog), Benedict Wong (Bull the English Bulldog), and Ashley Jensen (Jackie the Scottish Terrier).
Mulan – March 27, 2020
Milan is returning in a live-action remake, with Chinese actor Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, portraying the iconic warrior.
Differing from the 1998 animated film, the 2020 version will not be a musical.
Director Niki Caro told Moviefone: “It’s a big, girly martial arts epic.
“It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving.”

Cruella – December 23, 2020
The dalmatian coat loving villain from 101 Dalmatians that we all love to hate is returning in her own origin story.
Cruella will be played by Emma Stone, and directed by I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is actually the second time Cruella has been depicted in a live-action version of Dalmatians, as Glenn Close starred in the 1996 101 Dalmatians and the 2000 follow-up 102 Dalmatians.
Peter Pan – TBD
Also in the works is a live-action Peter Pan, with David Lowery set to direct and co-write the script, according to EW.
J M Barrie’s beloved character has also had many adaptations, including 1991’s Hook, a 2003 version by the same name and Finding Neverland in 2004.
Tink – TBD
On the subject of Peter Pan, Reese Wetherspoon is reportedly cast to play Tinkerbell, Peter’s fairy sidekick.
Co-writer of the screenplay for Finding Dory, Victoria Strouse, will write the script for this Disney reimagining.
The Sword in the Stone – TBD
Rather aptly, Brian Cogman, who wrote and produced HBO’s fantasy epic Game of Thrones, is reportedly writing a live-action remake of Sword in the Stone.
First released in 1963, the animation told the story of a young King Arthur.
Disney remakes: Cruella is getting her own film
Pinocchio – TBD
In early development at Disney is the remake of Pinocchio, with writer Peter Hedges said to be involved.
Paul King, who directed the family favourite Paddington films, was recently announced as the project’s director.
Rose Red – TBD
Taking a different route, Rose Red is reportedly the story of Snow White’s sister according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rose Red did star in the brothers Grimm original fairytale but does not feature in the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
In this reimagining, Rose Red helps the dwarves bring Snow White back to life after she eats the infamous poisoned apple.

Disney remakes: The little mermaid is also getting the live-action treatment
Prince Charming – TBD
Focusing on everyone’s favourite handsome Prince, it is not known whether this adaptation will feature Snow White or Cinderella’s beau – as both share the moniker.
The Little Mermaid – TBD
Halle Bailey, known for starring in Grown-ish, will portray Ariel in the live-action Little Mermaid.
Director Rob Marshall said in a press release: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,”
The date for release has not been decided, however, it is due to begin production in 2020.
