Mr Trump might be the US President but many have struggled to forget his surprise appearance in children’s film Home Alone 2.

The classic film follows the antics of Kevin Mcallister as he is trapped in New York, alone without his family.

Kevin, with the aid of his parent’s money, manages to live out of a hotel while he waits for his family in the city.

While staying in the hotel, he comes across Mr Trump, and asks him where the lobby is, to which the then-businessman replies “down the hall to the left”.

Why was Donald Trump in Home Alone 2?

Mr Trump’s part in Home Alone 2 came as a surprise for many, and the reason could be equally surprising.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Damon told that Mr Trump had an agreement with film crews using his buildings.

A special clause guaranteed the businessman a speaking line in any film that used a building of his as a location.

The Plaza Hotel, featured location of the scene where Kevin Mcallister meets Mr Trump, was sold to the mogul in 1988.

He installed his wife at the time Ivana Trump as the hotel’s president and renovated it.

By the time Home Alone 2 was being filmed, Mr Trump was an owner of the hotel, and the clause guaranteeing a part would have been in full effect.

Mr Trump is no longer an owner of the hotel, so any future scenes filmed in The Plaza would not require him to make an appearance.

Has Donald Trump been in other films?

Overall, the US President has made a cameo in 12 films and 14 television shows, mostly as himself.

In the films The Little Rascals and 54, Mr Trump played roles, starring as ‘Waldo’s dad’ in the former and a ‘VIP Patron’ in the latter.

As an actor, Mr Trump won a Golden Raspberry (Razzie) award for ‘worst supporting actor’ in film ‘Ghosts Can’t Do It’.

Mr Trump sustained a more varied filmography with television however, even appearing in a Minimusical on the 58th Primetime Emmy Awards.

He also had an interesting relationship with Wrestling, and even played a part in a match for WWE named ‘Battle of the Billionaires’.
