Eclipse 2017 in pictures: The most STUNNING photographs of the total solar eclipse
Millions of Americans are flocking to the darkest path of totality where the moon will completely block out the sun today.
The eclipse will first reach totality at about 10.15am EDT (6.15pm BST) in Oregon.
The exact timing depends your location as the eclipse moves across 14 United States towards the East Coast in South Carolina.
Here the latest images from NASA.
With just a minutes left before the solar eclipse, here are the most stunning photographs of the countdown to the eclipse.
In order to photograph the solar eclipse yourself, you will need to use a solar filter to protect your camera by reducing the brightness of the sun.
But you do not need a solar filter if you only take a photograph at the moment that the sun is blocked by the moon.
At that instant, the faint corona will not be visible if you keep the solar filter on your camera.
A leading eclipse website, called Mr Eclipse, says that the most specular moment of the eclipse is the totality when the moon obscures the sun.
It adds: “For a few brief minutes or seconds, the Sun’s pearly white corona, red prominences, and chromosphere are visible.
“The great challenge is to obtain a set of photographs that captures these fleeting phenomena.
“The most important point to remember is that during the total phase, all solar filters must be removed.”
