Eurovision 2017: Guess the only United Kingdom song this CENTURY to be a chart hit

Never Give Up On You was released way back in January when she was selected as our representative – but it should pick up sales momentum when she sings it on-stage for the continent on Saturday night.

She doesn’t actually have a very high bar to reach whatsoever in terms of chart success – as only ONE of our entries this century has hit the Top 5.

In fact, it’s the only one that has reached a high chart position since Katrina and the Waves – who won the Eurovision Song Contest – soared to No3 in 1997.

Can you guess what that one song is? Scroll down to find out…

Pop Idol star Jessica Garlick may have scored our best Eurovision placement this century when she came in third with Come Back in 2002 – but she didn’t have the same luck on the charts, reaching only No13.

It wasn’t Blue, either: despite their high profile, I Can went no higher than No16 after it came 11th in Europe in 2011.

Nope, the highest-charting United Kingdom Eurovision track in 20 years is in fact the high-camp novelty extravaganza from Scooch.

The group’s song Flying The Flag (For You) represented us in 2007 and only came in 22nd place in Eurovision.

But the record-buying public loved it – and they peaked at No5.

Not only were they our last candidates to hit the Top 5, they were also the last ones to hit the Top 10 at all.

Andy Abraham (2008) charted at No67 with Even If, Jade Ewen (2009) made No27 with It’s My Time, That Sounds Good To Me by Josh Dubrovie came a catastrophic No169 in 2010 and, after Blue in 2011, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Love Will Set You Free made No60.

Bonnie Tyler (No93, 2013), Molly (No23, 2014), Electro Velvet (No114, 2015) and Joe and Jake (No81, 2016) have also suffered.

The Eurovision Song Contest airs this Saturday on BBC One.
