Extremely Wicked: Zac Efron's Ted Bundy manipulates Lily Collins in UNSETTLING movie clip

The film stars the High School Musical and The Greatest Showman actor as the serial killer, with Collins playing girlfriend Liz. Ahead of its release in May, a new snippet has been revealed – showing the pair in a diner, with him trying to convince her that he has been set up. He points to a car parked outside and says he is being followed. Watch above.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Ted (Efron): handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate.

“Liz (Collins): a single mother, cautious, but smitten.

“A picture of domestic bliss, the two seem to have it all figured out. That is until Ted is arrested and charged with a series of increasingly grisly murders.

“As concern turns to paranoia, Liz is forced to consider how well she knows the man she shares a life with and, as the evidence piles up, decide if Ted is truly a victim, or actually guilty as charged.”

Efron has already spoken out to downplay the notion that the film glamorises Bundy’s horrific real-life acts.

“I feel a responsibility to make sure that this movie is not a celebration of Ted Bundy,” he said, according to MovieWeb. “Or a glorification of him.

“But, definitely, a psychological study of who this person was. In that, there’s honesty.”

He added: “Something clicked pretty early on, and it was kind of scary. It was that Ted and I had quite a bit in common in the way we carried ourselves.

“There are a few mannerisms. You can tell he’s a bit bashful. He’s kind of shy.

“He’s a well-spoken guy, but he hides his anxiety with a bit of a smile. I didn’t want to do too much of an impersonation.”

John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Angela Sarafyan, Jeffrey Donovan and Grace Victoria Cox also star in the film, which is directed by Joe Berlinger.

It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, with Efron’s performance coming in for praise from critics upon its debut.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is out on May 3 in the UK.
