Finsbury Park chaos: Thameslink delays of 90 minutes after incident – 'All lines blocked'
Commuters could be delayed by more than an hour-and-a-half after an incident between London and Stevenage this evening. Thamslink warned of the huge delays and claimed “all lines are blocked” after a person was hit by a train at Finsbury Park. Trains running through Finsbury Park would be cancelled or delayed for the remainder of the evening, the train operator warned.
They wrote on Twitter: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train at Finsbury Park.
“All lines are blocked whilst the emergency services work to deal with this tragedy.
“We will be providing service updates as we learn more.”
Thameslink urged customers to try to push back their journey if possible because of the delays.
They added: “Customers are being advised to delay travel under later today as journey times will be extended by up to 90 minutes.”
A ticket acceptance process has been put in place by the line to try to assist customers this evening.
A warning from Great Northern and Thameslink reads: “You are STRONGLY advised to delay travelling until later today.
“If you do travel, journey times will be extended by up to 90 minutes.
“You will need to use an alternative route in order to complete your journey.”
They said that a “person has been hit by a train between London and Stevenage”.
Adding: “Consequently, trains between London stations and Stevenage may be cancelled, delayed or revised.”
They said there would be “major disruption” until the end of the day.
At just after 5.30pm, Thameslink said that services running through Finsbury Park would be cancelled or delayed.
They said: “Services running through Finsbury Park will be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is currently anticipated until the end of service.
“Please consider alternative routes – ticket acceptance is in place to assist your journey.”
Great Northern also updated its customers on Twitter with a warning about the incident.
Customer advice has been posted on the Thameslink website.
Passengers travelling to Cambridge “are advised to use London Underground services to London Liverpool Street and change there for services to Cambridge”.
“If you are at Finsbury Park requiring Cambridge you should use London Underground services to Tottenham Hale and change there for Greater Anglia services to Cambridge.”
Customers travelling to Peterborough have been urged to travel “to London Liverpool Street for Greater Anglia services to Ely. At these stations, you should change for Cross Country or East Midland services to Peterborough.”
