First Man runtime: How long is First Man? Total running time revealed

The space odyssey bio-pic is going head to head with noir thriller Bad Times at the El Royale.

Ryan Gossling stars as Neil Armstrong, giving us a glimpse into the famous man’s personal life and struggles.

How long is First Man?

First Man comes in at a whopping two hours and 21 minutes.

The film has a lot of ground to cover, after all.

During the nearly two and a half hours of footage, viewers get to see both the triumphs and failures of Armstrong and NASA as a whole

The movie is already being tipped as an Oscar contender.

Damien Chazelle adapted the 2005 biography by James R Hansen for the big screen.

In IMAX specifically, First Man is a movie of epic proportions.

Movies are on trend to get longer and longer, which makes movies like Venom feel speedy.

Venom clocked in at one hour and 52 minutes.

First Man does its best to move quickly through the long runtime.

First Man is rated 12A, and this is perhaps for the best as there are few 11-year-olds capable of sitting still for almost two and a half hours.

First Man’s fellow space-genre movies are equally long.

Apollo 13 is two hours and 20 minutes and The Martian is two hours and 31 minutes.

However, Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock, was only an hour and a half.

Luckily First Man does not have any end credit or mid credit scenes, like superhero movies of today.

This means as soon as the credits roll you can be out of your seat.

La La Land, Chazelle’s Oscar-winning 2017 movie, was two hours and eight minutes long.

But his breakout movie Whiplash was only one hour and 47 minutes.
