The first Frozen film is a favourite of children all over the world. Now, the second in the franchise is about to be released in UK cinemas. But parents may be concerned that some elements of the story could be upsetting for young children.

What is the age rating of Frozen 2?

Frozen 2 has been given a U certificate by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) and is said to contain “mild threat, very mild violence, rude humour.”

The BBFC also gives information on what the U classification means, meaning parents can work out whether their children may find some things upsetting.

The BBFC states: “A U film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over, although it is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child.

“U films should be set within a positive framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.

“If a work is particularly suitable for pre-school children, this will be indicated in the ratings info.”

Frozen 2 has not been cleared as particularly suitable for pre-school children, so this may be worth taking into consideration.

The BBFC also explain in their guidelines about the film specifically which moments some children could be upset by.

***Mild Frozen 2 spoilers***

In Frozen 2, according to the BBFC, there are some moments in the film which may upset small children, or those who are particularly sensitive.

According to the guidelines, these moments are: “A woman is threatened by a fantastical creature at sea. A fire breaks out in a forest, causing characters to run away in panic.

“Rock giants attack a woman, but she is unharmed. Civilians must flee their homes after learning that their Kingdom is at risk of flooding.

“All scenes of threat are brief and end reassuringly.

“It is implied that a man is killed, although there is no sight of this. Characters wield a range of weapons including swords.

“There are occasional jokes about burping and passing wind.

“There are emotional scenes in which two women mourn the death of their parents.

“A character is believed to be lost forever. There is infrequent very mild bad language (‘butt’) and brief scenes of kissing.”

What is Frozen 2 about?

In Frozen 2, Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) hears strange voices calling her out of Arendelle, as freak weather threatens to endanger the kingdom.

She decides, along with Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Josh Gad) and Sven to go and follow the voices to try and help save the kingdom.

Naturally, they discover some surprising truths on the way, and Elsa comes closer to working out how she is who she is.

Frozen 2 is in cinemas from November 22
