Frozen 2 will see Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) back together to try and save Arendelle. The pair were kept apart for much of the first Frozen film, so now the sisters are doing it for themselves in the sequel. With the film’s soundtrack one of its key attributes, how are the iconic songs woven into the story?

Frozen became one of the most famous animations in Disney history and it was partly down to one thing: Let It Go.

The iconic anthem became a song of a generation as thousands of YouTube videos surfaced of adorable kids singing the song while fixated on their TV sets.

However, it was the soundtrack which really captivated fans, including Do You Want to Build a Snowman? and In Summer, both of which set children’s hearts a flutter.

Now, the Frozen 2 producer Peter Del Vecho has spoken up about what it takes to write such a incredible soundtrack – and how the songs and story are so interwoven.

Speaking at The Contenders Los Angeles, and reported by Deadline, Del Vecho said: “We meet with them [songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez] every day.”

“In the beginning we don’t even talk songs. It’s all about character.

“As the story evolves, there’s a back and forth between script and songs.

“Oftentimes the songs evolved and change or the story evolves and change, one or the other.”

It turns out this is not a jukebox musical, where the narrative is written using pre-existing songs, but it is also not the case that the songs are added in later.

The process is seemingly far more involved on both sides.

This most recent film will also feature Evan Rachel Wood playing Anna and Elsa’s mother, which is likely to bring some exciting twists and turns to the narrative.

Del Vecho added: “Evan Rachel Wood plays Anna and Elsa’s mother, who had an appearance in the first movie but we didn’t know much about her.

“Like a lot of mothers, she imparts a lot of wisdom they use later in life.

“Evan Rachel Wood has that perfect voice that sits right in between Anna and Elsa’s voice, so it sounds naturally like their mother.”

While he speaking voice may be perfect, Wood will also be adding to the soundtrack as she features in two songs.

Wood has proven her musical chops before, so she will likely bring an added layer of incredible vocal stylings.

Speaking on how Anna and Elsa will interact in the new movie, Del Vecho said: “Anna is very much a fairy tale character. Elsa’s actually a mythic character.

“She carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and does things others can’t do.

“Unlike the first film, where they were kept apart for most of the movie, this time Anna’s right there by her side.

“But there are parts Elsa has to do alone.”

All of his teasing will surely leave fans desperate to find out what Elsa’s burdens will cause for her this time around, and luckily there is not long to wait.

Frozen 2 is out in cinemas on November 22
