Greatest Showman and Back to the Future top UK poll of most wanted stage musical adaptions

Both movies are huge hit cult classics, but could they finally be coming to the West End?

Super Break’s YouGov poll of 2000 British adults has found that The Greatest Showman is the most wanted stage musical adaptation of a film, with 15% of the vote.

Meanwhile Michael J Fox’s Back to the Future was a close second with 13%.

Interestingly 20% of women who voted favoured the PT Barnum musical, while the time travel comedy was more popular among men.

Other favourites included Wuthering Heights at 10% and Jane Eyre with 8%.

A Super Break spokespersons said: “Whilst over a third (36%) of the population go to the theatre at least once every six months, it seems that the great majority (50 per cent) see it as a treat and only go once a year. 

“Incredibly, more than one in ten people (12%) have never experienced it for themselves – but with such a wide selection of performances to choose from, there has never been a better time to experience the thrill of the theatre.”

“The Greatest Showman is a hugely popular film that has really captivated its audience, so it’s not surprising to see it voted as the story most people would love to see make an impact in the West End.”

Speaking recently the PT Barnum star said: “We were talking about a live version of the show even before [the movie] came out.

“There was a discussion at one point in the eight-year journey of this movie of maybe going live first…

“When Keala Settle got up, stood in the middle of a room and sang This Is Me with no makeup, no nothing, no anything, there was not a dry eye in the house. The musical really works live.”
