Hamilton MOVIE confirmed as Lin-Manuel Miranda reveals huge original cast news
Hamilton is one of the hottest shows in the world and tickets have been among the most sought after since it premiered off-Broadway back in 2015. The musical, based on the life story of US statesman and Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, has won a number of awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 11 Tony Awards in 2016, having been nominated for a record-breaking 16. With tickets tricky (and sometimes pricey) to come by, many fans are hoping Lin-Manuel Miranda will bring the show to the big screen.
Now, the Hamilton creator has confirmed those wishes will be granted.
Hamilton will, at some point, be screened in cinemas, the playwright, producer, actor, composer and lyricist revealed to Variety.
Miranda told the publication Hamilton will be getting the movie treatment “sooner rather than later” after the director Thomas Kail filmed the stage show when all the original cast were still in the Broadway production.
“We filmed the original cast the week before the beginning cast members began to leave the show and Tommy’s made that into a great movie,” he said.
The musical fuses hip-hop, RnB, rap and soul and features non-white actors in the roles of the Founding Fathers and other historical figures.
Back in 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported the recording of the show existed and said studios were in a bidding war over distribution rights.
At the time, the publication cited two insiders claiming it was unlikely to be released before 2020.
Elsewhere, Miranda’s movie adaptation of his hit musical In the Heights is set to be released this summer.
