Han Solo movie: Alden Ehrenreich reveals what Star Wars icon Harrison Ford was REALLY like

Ford played Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy, returning again for The Force Awakens in 2015.

Ehrenreich famously met up with Ford prior to filming Solo: A Star Wars Story – the prequel movie that’s due in cinemas this weekend.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on her chatshow last week, he opened up on what it was like to meet the man with a less-than-warm reputation.

“I had lunch with Harrison, it was awesome,” he said.

“Everyone prepared me, like, ‘he can be grouchy’, but he was great.

“He was supportive, really nice, he was very kind to give us his blessing.”

Solo has had generally positive reviews from critics; achieving a 71% score overall – the lowest for any Star Wars movie since the prequel trilogy.

But that’s still a very decent rating considering the ropey production process, which saw Phil Lord and Chris Miller replaced by Ron Howard mid-way through filming.

The consensus reads: “A flawed yet fun and fast-paced space adventure, Solo: A Star Wars Story should satisfy newcomers to the saga as well as longtime fans who check their expectations at the theatre door.”

Entertainment Weekly issued a B grade, saying: “It’s the very definition of ‘solid’ and ‘competent.’ Nothing more, nothing less.”

Variety wrote: “Though burdened with a slow start and enough thirsty fan-service to power Comic-Con’s Hall H for a decade, it has a kicky, kinetic heist movie at its heart, and its action sequences are machine-tooled spectacles of the first order.”

The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, concurred: “Despite the intermittent lags, the production proves to be more than a salvage operation thanks mainly to those engagingly choreographed performances, led by an irresistibly charismatic title turn from Alden Ehrenreich.”

The film also stars Donald Glover, Paul Bettany, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson among others.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on Thursday.
