Incredibles 2: Can Incredibles 2 provoke seizures?
Pixar’s Incredibles 2 picks up three months from where the 2004 origin movie left off.
Fans are treated to the Parry family adjusting to their life, complete with new baby.
Can Incredibles 2 provoke seizures?
Incredibles 2 opened in America on Friday, 15 June to rave reviews, but in the wake of the opening, some attendees posted on social media their fear the movie could trigger seizures.
The risk is particularly high for people with epilepsy, migraines or chronic illness.
INCREDIBLES 2: HOW MUCH HAS INCREDIBLES 2 MADE IN ITS OPENING WEEKEND?
The Incredibles sequel has a scene which includes bright flashing lights – which can induce or cause seizures.
The Epilepsy Foundation issued a statement over concerns people with epilepsy could suffer a seizure during the movie.
On Saturday the Epilepsy Foundation wrote: “Members of our community have expressed concerns about flashing lights in the new Disney Pixar movie ‘Incredibles 2,’ and, in certain instances, people having experienced a seizure during the movie.”
“We appreciate the efforts some theatres have already made to post warning signs for people waiting to see the movie,” the statement added.

AMC Theatres supervisor Mauricio Mencia, who works at a Los Angeles cinema location, said: “I’ve never seen something like that happen.”
Nonetheless, cinemas showing Incredibles 2 have taken to putting their own warnings up, like the below photo taken by a moviegoer in Columbus, Ohio.
Disney’s memo has been shared on social media and says: ” Incredibles 2 contains a sequence of flashing lights, which may affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or other photosensitivities.”
The Epilepsy Foundation says: “for about 3 percent of people with epilepsy, exposure to flashing lights at certain intensities, or with certain visual patterns, can trigger seizures.
INCREDIBLES 2: RELEASE DATE, TRAILER AND WHO IS JOINING THE CAST OF THE SEQUEL
“This condition is known as photosensitive epilepsy and it’s more common in children and adolescents, especially those with generalized epilepsy and a type known as juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.”
Incredibles 2 had the biggest opening weekend of any animated movie. Ever.
Its unlikely the seizure warning will damage the movie’s standing, and the actions taken by Disney and independently by cinemas seem to be placating concerns.
UK fans still have to wait several weeks for Incredibles 2 to come to cinemas; Incredibles 2 has a Friday, July 13 release date.
