Indiana Jones 5 DELAYED again: Script NEEDS a rewrite BUT Harrison Ford still on board?

The iconic actor may be about to turn 76-years-old next month, but he’s far from done with action movies.

Ford was set to reprise Indiana Jones for a fifth (and presumably final) time alongside Steven Spielberg next year.

Cameras were going to roll in the UK from April 2019 to meet an Indy 5 release date of July 2020.

However the long-awaited sequel to 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been delayed once again.

Originally set for release in summer 2019, Indiana Jones 5 has been pushed back by months, if not a year, meaning it probably won’t hit cinemas until at least 2021.

According to Variety the main release is so Solo: A Star Wars Story screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan can rewrite David Koepp’s script.

Koepp wrote Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a film not fondly remembered by many Indy fans.

However Kasdan is the son of Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote original Indiana Jones outing Raiders of the Lost Ark.

In fact the father and son duo penned Solo together, a film about a younger version of Ford’s Star Wars character.

With such a move perhaps Lucasfilm and producer Frank Marshall are hoping for more of that Raiders classic vibe rather than the zany aliens of Koepp’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Whatever happens fans will be pleased to know both Ford and Spielberg – the latter of which has already teased the film’s setting – are still on board Indy 5.

In the mean time it’s possible Spielberg will push forward his remake of West Side Story.

While another project on his slate is The Kidnapped of Edgardo Mortara, which will star Mark Rylance.

Indiana Jones 5 will probably be released in summer 2021.
