James Bond Avengers star new odds: Chris Evans QUITS Captain America for OO7?

There was already a major kerfuffle at the discussions over a female Bond. Could a Yank really be allowed to play the greatest British movie hero of all time? What would M say?

All the attention so far has been on the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Aiden Turner and, most recently, Henry Cavill and the Richard Madden.

Cavill’s remoured exit as Superman started a flurry of reports he could be lining himself up for Bond, but Evans has just officially said goodbye to his iconic role as Steve Rogers/Captain America and he has the looks, the charisma and the action chops for the biggest role in Hollywood.

British bookies are already slashing the odds massively on Evans taking over Daniel Craig after Bond 25.

Just a week after Bodyguard star Ricahrd Madden was being touted as the next OO7, William Hill cut the price of Chris Evans being named as the next James Bond today. 

The former Captain America is now 33/1 to become Commander Bond. This is down from a previous 100/1.

The currents favourites like Tom Hiddleston at 4/6, Idris Elba at 7/2 and Tom Hardy at 4/1 should start looking over their strapping shoulders.

A spokeman said “Had Daniel Craig not signed up for another Bond, it was looking like a two horse race between Tom Hardy and Idris Elba, but with him stepping into the role one last time, more names are entering the frame.” 

“First Tom Hiddleston became favourite, then Henry Cavill stepped down as Superman and now Captain America could be in line for a promotion.”

After Danny Boyle sensationally stepped down as the Bond 25 director, American Cary Fukunaga stepped in. He is the first US director to helm a Bond movie in the entire franchise’s history.

Chris Evans devastated fans this week when he posted an emotional message from the sets of the Avengers 4 reshoots in Atlanta.

He wrote: “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour.”

The news immediately raised speculation that Captain America will make the ultimate sacrifice in Avengers 4 to save the universe and bring back all those killed in The Snap.

The universe has plenty of saviours, but there is only one James Bond. Would fans accept a US star as the most British of heroes?
