James Bond: David Walliams is 007 villain Blofeld for Halloween – fans confuse for Dr Evil

James Bond has faced many foes over the years but the biggest baddie of the Bond villains has to be Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE. He featured a number of times played by different actors in the earlier Bond movies, before making a surprise return in the latest 007 movie, played by Christoph Waltz. Now 007 superfan David Williams, who presented a documentary a few years back about his love of the spy franchise, has channelled Blofeld for this year’s Jonathan Ross Halloween party. The 48-year-old posted a couple of snaps on his Instagram wearing that classic grey jacket and sporting a bald cap and fake scar, with a white cat toy in his arms.

But from the comments on the snaps, it seems some of his fans mistook Walliams’ costume for Austin Powers villain Dr Evil, a parody of Blofeld who dresses exactly the same way as his counterpart.

Walliams had to post another picture of himself as the Bond villain to correct the mistake.

But considering the absence of Blofeld from the 007 franchise for so many years until of late, it’s unsurprising that the look is more associated with Dr Evil today.

While Waltz’ Blofeld was captured by MI6 at the end of 2015’s Spectre, it now looks like he’ll be making a return in next year’s No Time To Die.

Back in August, reliable Bond insider Baz Bamigboye tweeted: “Exclusive: Hello Mr Waltz… we’ve been expecting you.”

“#ChristophWaltz is back as #Blofeld in ⁦@007⁩ #Bond25, shooting scenes at Pinewood Studios.”

Baz added: “When a visitor spotted him, Waltz insisted, “You haven’t seen me.”

Why Blofeld is back for No Time To Die is something of a mystery, considering that Rami Malek’s Safin is the main villain against Daniel Craig’s 007 this time around.

After all, how can you top Blofeld as the big bad for a Bond actor’s final movie in the franchise?

Well, there’s a theory among fans that Safin is actually Dr No, just as Franz Oberhauser was really Blofeld.

Aside from the head of SPECTRE, Auric Goldfinger and Dr Julius No are probably the most famous Bond villains to come to mind for movie fans.

And considering the two of them, Malek certainly would be a great fit for Dr No. But there’s a couple of other reasons the Bohemian Rhapsody star could be playing him.

Dr No was 007’s first main villain in the original Bond movie of the same name, back in 1962. Bringing in a new incarnation of him would be a wonderful tribute to the franchise.

The baddie also works for SPECTRE, which could explain his connection to Waltz’ Blofeld, who is also returning for No Time To Die. With Blofeld in prison, he’ll need another of his colleagues in the evil organisation to keep business running smoothly.

Dr No is also a mad scientist in the film, which would fit in well with the rumoured genetic warfare plot and No Time To Die’s synopsis mentioning the search for a missing scientist – one that’s probably separate to Dr No.

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2, 2020.
