James Bond: Guess which star dreamed of being ‘brutal, snobbish, sexist and cruel’ 007?
The latest James Bond movie in Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die may be taking post-MeToo sensibilities into account, but back in the Sir Sean Connery and Sir Roger Moore eras of the sixties and seventies, he was quite the different kettle of fish. The early 007 movies, as with Ian Fleming’s novels, can be awkward viewing for modern audiences with the way Bond could treat and view women. But now one star has admitted that in their youth they dreamed of being 007, warts and all.
According to Daily Mail, Stephen Fry said: “Brutal, snobbish, sexist and cruel as he could be, I was a great lover of all things James Bond when I was a youth.
“I don’t mind admitting, shallow and silly as it sounds, that I wanted to BE Bond.
“As for my coming close to Bond, well, it didn’t take me long to realise with a sigh of acceptance that I was suited by nature to be a Blofeld or perhaps a Goldfinger or a Drax.
“Even a Miss Moneypenny or a Q — but never a Bond. Heigh-ho…”

While 36% thought Bond girls were consistently portrayed as less intelligent than Bond and 28% agreed they were bad role models for young women.
Meanwhile, a book by a university professor claimed that Bond wasn’t sexist but a “stylish commando”.
In The World of James Bond historian Jeremy Black, Professor at University of Exeter said: “Bond was a very modern man for the 1950s.
“This was the pre-pill age, but he admires women who offer sex, femininity and masculinity.”
