James Bond: Most Americans support a black 007 – Idris Elba BACKED to replace Daniel Craig

Over the last 56 years, James Bond has been played officially by six white actors. But in recent years there have been calls by some to diversify 007 in terms of race, gender and sexuality. And in a new poll of over 2000 Americans, 52% said they support a black 007 over other diversity options. Meanwhile, support for a Hispanic or Asian Bond was lower at 39% and 37%. Also, those who backed a female Bond, something producer Barbara Broccoli has confirmed won’t happen, were also at 37%.

However, most Americans (52%) didn’t support a gay Bond, despite Brosnan’s previous backing.

The same poll, conducted by Hollywood Reporter/MorningConsult, also found that 63% support Elba playing Bond next – with just 21% opposed to the idea.

Interestingly though, 51% said the James Bond series shouldn’t be changed in any way.

As it stands, Elba is 5-1 to replace Daniel Craig as Bond, equal to Tom Hardy.

Cary has only directed four movies and one of them is Netflix Original Beasts Of No Nation, which starred Elba.

And back in 2015 when he was promoting the movie, he admitted he would like to direct a Bond film starring the actor.

Speaking with Metro, Cary said: “That would be pretty cool to have Idris and I do a Bond film together.”

“I wouldn’t say no to that. Maybe find a role for Abraham [Attah] in there too.”
