Jamie Vardy does regret rejecting Arsenal and staying at Leicester – Charlie Nicholas
Vardy’s release clause at Leicester was activated by Arsenal last summer but the Gunners failed to agree personal terms with the England striker.
The 30-year-old has always maintained he was right to stay at the King Power and once again stated that in an interview today.
But Nicholas doesn’t believe the former Fleetwood star and thinks he would rather have joined Arsene Wenger’s side, despite a turbulent season in north London.
“I think he may (regret it), I think he may,” he said on Sky Sports.
“I know Arsenal have had a struggling season.”
Vardy struggled at the start of the season as did Leicester following their historic Premier League win last term.
But he and the Foxes have turned it around in recent months under Craig Shakespeare and Nicholas thinks it’s been a good season for them.
“I think when we started the season this year we thought they would do okay in the Champions League and they did much better than that and they’re going to finish halfway house in the league,” he added.
“That’s a pretty decent return from being champions. They’ve just about done that and surpassed that, the Champions League was different class.
“I really do think it was as good as I thought it was. Obviously we were quite disappointed with them (Claudio) Ranieri situation, because what a great man he was.
“That happens in football, there’s no sympathy. Shakespeare has done really well.”
