Kate Middleton’s dress nipped in at the waist and had a had a full flowing skirt.

The Catherine Walker dress was double breasted with large buttons.

Prince William’s wife held a grey bag and wore matching grey shoes.

Kate’s shoes and handbag were from Emmy London.

Kate has worn another very similar red coat from Catherine Walker before.

She wore this coat for her 2014 trip to Canada, making it an appropriate choice for Commonwealth day.

It is a version of the Catherine Walker ‘Russian Greatcoat’, which Kate was also worn in green.

Many of Kate’s coats from the brand are custom, an the website does not list prices.

Today is Commonwealth Day, and the royals are out in full force to celebrate.

The Royal Family tweeted: “This afternoon, HRH will accompany The Queen and other members of the @RoyalFamily for the Commonwealth Day Service at @wabbey.”

“Viewers from around The Commonwealth can watch the #CommonwealthDay service live on @BBCOne now, on the BBC YouTube Channel from 2.50pm (…) and listen on @bbcworldservice from 3pm.”

What is the Commonwealth?

The Commonwealth comprises of 53 member states. Most of them were part of the former British Empire.

It has 2.4 billion citizens and includes countries such as Australia, Canada and India.

Meghan Markle attended a Commonwealth Day Youth Event at Canada House in London today.

The royal line of succession – who outranks who?

The line of succession to the British throne dictates the order in which each member of the Royal Family would ascend to the throne.

It is also seen as a ranking of importance with the head of the line, the Queen, taking the place of ruler.

Older children come before younger children. Traditionally boys came before girls, but this law was changed on 26 March 2015 before the birth of Prince William’s first child.

Incredibly, Catholics are still excluded from the line of succession, as are children born outside of wedlock.

The royals, who usually stick to a strict protocol when appearing in public, often arrive at events in ascending order of importance, with the most important royal arriving last.

Prince Charles, 70, is currently second-in-line to the British throne, followed by Prince William, 37, his oldest son.

Then comes Prince William’s children, George, five, Charlotte, three, and Louis, almost one, and they are followed by Prince Harry, 37.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s child will come next when they are born.
