Lion King 2019 release date: When is ‘live action’ remake out in the UK and worldwide?

After the teaser trailer’s release last night, anticipation is sky high for the new film – which comes courtesy of director Jon Favreau, who had previously overseen the Jungle Book remake. With an all-star cast including Donald Glover and Beyonce, the box office potential here is huge – and with Dumbo and Aladdin also landing in the same year, Disney can probably look forward to a lucrative 2019.

So when is The Lion King out in cinemas?

In most territories – including the UK and US – The Lion King will be out on July 19, 2019.

Some select countries will get it at different times: for example France and Sweden will be first to see the movie on July 17, followed by Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Russia and Ukraine on July 18.

Also getting it on July 19 are Canada, Lebanon, Lithuania, the Netherlands and South Africa, according to IMDb.

Movie fans in Japan (July 20) and Spain (July 26) will have to wait slightly longer.

The first trailer has already had many millions of views since its launch last night: at least 19.7 million on Twitter, 25 million on Facebook and 9 million YouTube, just on Disney’s official channels.

The cast includes Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.

James Earl Jones reprises the role of Mufasa, while Alfre Woodard is Sarabi, John Kani is Rafiki and John Olivier is Zazu.

The film follows the release of Dumbo on March 29, and Aladdin on May 24.

After that, Lady and the Tramp is in the works of 2019, and Mulan and Lilo and Stitch are also en route.

The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Pinocchio and The Sword in the Stone are believed to be in development, although they don’t currently have release dates.

The Lion King is out on July 19, 2019.
