Lion King remake cast: Who is the voice of Scar in the new Lion King?

Beyoncé, Donald Glover and Seth Rogan are just a few of the massive names to star in the new Lion King movie. They were out in force for the movie’s LA premiere last night. But who plays Scar’s voice in the new film?

Who is the voice of Scar?

British theatre legend Jeremy Irons voiced Simba’s nemesis uncle Scar in the 1994 film.

Another Briton, actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, has taken on the evil villain mantle this time around.

In an EW interview, Chiwetel described Scar as “psychologically possessed”, a character who can “turn everything on its head in a split second with outrageous acts of violence.”

Who else is in the cast?

The star-studded cast does not stop with Donald Glover and Beyonce.

Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan are playing Simba’s roguish pals Timon and Simba and, according to one critic, they steal the show.

Following the LA premiere of the movie last night, critic Beatrice Verhoeven wrote: “The Lion King delivers.

“It’s a visual masterpiece that will leave you smiling and crying the whole time.”

“It’s a true testament to the lasting effect Disney movies have on all generations.

“Timon and Pumbaa steal the show. And BEYONCE!!!”

Other cast members include John Kani as Rafiki and comedian John Oliver as Zazu.

Florence Kasumba, Eric Andre, and Keegan-Michael Key voice Shenzi, Azizi and Kamari, Scar’s hyena henchmen.

Donald Glover and Beyonce also teamed up for a cover of Elton John’s Lion King ballad “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” for the new film.

First reviews of the new flick have been widely positive with one critic describing it as a “game-changer.”

The Lion King hits UK cinemas on July 19.
