Mamma Mia 2: Meryl Streep Donna shock revealed by Lily James – ‘It was terrifying’
The actress plays the younger Donna in the new movie, with Meryl Streep originating the role.
Interestingly, she’s let slip that the two share a scene together – when past and present collide.
What exactly this means for the plot is unclear, and it’s also ambiguous as to what it means for rumours that Steep’s Donna is dead.
“[Meryl] was just so cool. We had to do this dance together and she gave it all to me, she let me take my moment,” she told PorterEdit.
Of her first encounter with the iconic actress, she recalled: “[Meryl] was singing this song in a chapel and it was so emotional.
“I was sat outside knowing I was about to meet her. And crying. And it was like: hold it together, Lily! It was too much!”
The film sees the return of most of the stars from the 2008 film, and finds Donna’s daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) pregnant with her first child.
Streep did not appear in any new footage in the first trailer, and her character appeared to be talked about in the past tense – leading to fears that she had been killed off.
Also back are Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth and Dominic Cooper.
Cher is also on board for the sequel, playing Ruby Sheridan – Donna’s mother.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is out on July 20.
