The new film – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – is due out in the summer of 2018, using ABBA songs not utilised the first time round.

Deadline notes that some songs from the previous tale will also make re-appearances.

As for the cast, the industry publication claims that they ARE expected to return – with Pierce Brosnan’s singing being precisely what the world needs right now.

It was, of course, the likes of Meryl Streep, Brosnan, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters and Amanda Seyfried who made the 2008 romp such a smash.

Universal have said that the location will once again be the Greek island of Kalokairi, with the same producers back on board.

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus also return as executive producers.

Mamma Mia!, based on the stage musical (which itself is based on ABBA’s finest hits), was an unprecedented juggernaught at the box office.

It raked in a hefty $609.8 million in ticket receipts, and was also a record-breaker when it found its way to Blu-ray and DVD.

Since then it has had plenty of competition in the movie musical stakes, with Beauty and the Beast and La La Land proving popular this year alone.

But the appeal of a new Mamma Mia! story will surely be irresistible to movie-goers next year.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is out on July 20, 2018.
