Paul Pogba tipped to stay at Man Utd

Gary Neville has backed Paul Pogba to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

The Old Trafford hero reckons United’s recent signings will convince Pogba to stay.

“The direction all season of Pogba’s career was always facing away from Manchester in the sense that there was so much speculation and his agent was coming out all the time,” he said.

“And now with what’s happened, coronavirus and the economic reset in football, what clubs are going to be able to buy Paul Pogba for the reputed £80m, £100m fees that were being thrown around?

“Which clubs are going to be paying the huge wages he’s on at Manchester United?

“I’m not diminishing him as a player, I’m just talking about the economic situation the whole world finds itself in.

“Paul Pogba may have to, and may want to, sit at Manchester United for the next 12 to 18 months, and look at the fact he’s at a club he can play with Bruno Fernandes, Fred, (Scott) McTominay, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, De Gea, Rashford, Greenwood.”

Manchester United and Chelsea transfer target Federico Chiesa is reportedly learning English in preparation for a potential move to the Premier League.

Fiorentina director general Joe Barone recently revealed that a number of clubs are monitoring La Viola’s star winger and the latest development suggests a transfer could be on the horizon.

Seven goals and five assists in all competitions this term has put the winger on the radar of several European clubs, with United and Chelsea thought to be leading the chase.

And the Daily Mail report that Chiesa is taking English lessons in order to avoid being caught unprepared in the instance of a move to the UK.

Liverpool lead Koulibaly transfer race

Liverpool lead the race to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer after Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United both pulled out of the running, French outlet Le10 Sport claim.

They say PSG will instead prioritise signing Thiago Silva to a new contract instead.

Koulibaly is one of the most valuable defenders in the world, with Napoli previously demanding £88million (€100m) for the centre-back.

However, with United and PSG pulling out of the race to sign Koulibaly, Liverpool are in pole position to land the Senegal international.

They add that Newcastle are also interested, with the Toon ready to make a mammoth offer this summer.
