Marvel Movies Phase Four: THESE villains could be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is littered with the deaths of many a foolish villain who tried to take on the Avengers. From way back when with Iron Man in 2008 and the death of Obadiah Stane, villains have met their fates at the hands of the Avengers. But with Thanos came a new era of villains, and now the heroes are on their back foot for the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
Which villains could be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4?
If the MCU’s Phase Four movies occur chronologically (with the exception of Captain Marvel, which is set in the 90s) there are plenty of villains to choose from.
Another assumption being made, perhaps foolishly, is the dead will remain dead.
These are the villains who could come back to face a new generation of Avengers.
This list does not include Michael Keaton’s Vulture who is already confirmed for Spider-Man: Far From Home and Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, who was redeemed in Ant-Man & the Wasp.
AVENGERS 4: COULD THIS CHARACTER BE THE REAL VILLAIN IN AVENGERS 4?
Thanos: The main Avengers villain in Infinity War was Thanos
The Abomination
The Abomination, aka Emil Blonsky, was played by Tim Roth in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk movie.
Blonsky was captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and being held in a cryogenic chamber, but he could have been broken out during the Hydra uprising in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Batroc The Leaper
Batroc was introduced to the MCU in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and was played by Georges St‑Pierre.
In the film, he was hired by Nick Fury to capture a S.H.I.E.L.D. mobile satellite platform launch ship, before being captured himself and imprisoned.

Dread Dormammu
Dread Dormammu is an other-dimensional entity who rules the Dark Dimension and was introduced in 2016’s Doctor Strange.
In the movie, the Sorcerer Supreme forced Dormammu to promise never to attack Earth again, but the likelihood he will keep that promise seems slim.
The Grandmaster
Played by the inimitable Jeff Goldblum, audiences were introduced to The Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok.
According to Jeff Goldblum, the Grandmaster survived Thanos’ snap and, despite falling on hard times, is still alive.

Justin Hammer: A potential villain for the upcoming Phase Four could be played by Sam Rockwell
Helmut Zemo
Zemo is a Sokovian citizen turned terrorist, played by Daniel Brühl and brought into the MCU with Captain America: Civil War in 2016.
Like The Grandmaster, Zemo has survived the snap and could come back to do more damage.
Justin Hammer
Justin Hammer was one of the major villains in 2010’s Iron Man 2 and was played by Sam Rockwell.
He is imprisoned in Seagate Prison, but Marvel is not beyond a prison break…
AVENGERS ENDGAME TRAILER: IS CAPTAIN MARVEL IN AVENGERS 4 TRAILER?
Karl Mordo: Chiwetel Ejiofor plays the Doctor Strange baddie who will likely return to the MCU
Karl Mordo
Chiwetel Ejiofor’s villain is undoubtedly going to return in the Doctor Strange sequel.
In the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange, Mordo claimed there were too many sorcerers and decided to go on a rampage to drain magic from the world.
The Leader
Marvel’s own leader Kevin Feige has teased the resurgence of The Leader, saying it was a matter only of “finding the right place.”
He was introduced, to fans disappointment without much fanfare, in The Incredible Hulk and played by Tim Blake Nelson.
The Red Skull: Another potential MCU villain is the Red Skull
The Mandarin
Iron Man 3 (2013) brought an unpopular iteration of the classic comic book villain, portrayed by Ben Kingsley.
Kingsley’s Mandarin was, in fact, a man named Trevor Slattery only impersonating The Mandarin, meaning the real one is still out there…
The Red Skull
Though he was defeated in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers: Infinity War revealed The Red Skull to be trapped on Vormir, his physical form slowly being destroyed by the Soul Stone.
Now that Thanos has the stone, the Red Skull could be free to roam and exact his revenge.
Scorpion: The Spider-Man Homecoming villain, played by Michael Mando) could return in Phase 4
Scorpion
2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced us to the crime boss Scorpion, aka Mac Gargan (played by Michael Mando).
He is unconfirmed for a return in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but he is on the table as a possible future foe.
Shocker
A member of the Sinister Six, the Shocker was briefly played by Bokeem Woodbine in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
He was captured and is in prison, but as we’ve said before, a prison break is certainly not beyond Marvel to plan…
Ultron: Another Marvel villain is Ultron, the artificial intelligence created by Iron Man himself
Thanos
Of course, the main villain of Avengers: Infinity war could come back to haunt the Avengers in the future.
Thanos’ fate is as of yet unknown, but with the imminent release of Avengers: Endgame, fans will have an answer.
Tinkerer
The Tinkerer, aka Michael Chernus, was introduced during 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, working with the Vulture.
Since Keaton’s Vulture is scheduled to return in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the Tinkerer was still free and on the run at the end of Homecoming, they may join forces once again.
Ultron
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2015’s group movie to feature the merry band of superheroes, Ultron was the main baddie and what’s worse, he was created by Tony Stark himself.
A ruthless and genocidal artificial intelligence, Ultron was not destroyed as the Avengers believed and could come back to haunt future generations of Marvel heroes.
