Marvel star reveals worst X-Men moment: 'I felt like a whore, I was mortified'

Famous people also frequently complain about the pressures of the Hollywood system, and certainly, extremely disturbing revelations have come to light over the past few years. They also complain about the things they are expected to do for fans. For which there is rather less sympathy, considering the ample rewards they generally receive for their sacrifice. Of course, sometimes something genuinely upsetting has taken place. This time it’s a male star who says he “felt like a whore” taking money for something he says he will never do again. 

This time is Alan Cumming, who memorably appeared in the X-Men franchise as Kurt/Nightcrawler. 

He only made one outing, in 2003’s X2 movie, but it was enough to establish his cult status with fans.

In a new interview on tonight’s Graham Norton show, Cumming reveals his lowest point.

However, it wasn’t the four hours he had to endure daily in the make-up chair for his blue face and tattoos (and nine hours for shirtless scenes).

He dated actress Saffron Burrows for two years and was married to another actress, Hilary Lyon for eight years.

Cumming also had a six-year relationship with theatre director Nick Philippou.

He met Shaffer in 2005 and they became civil partners in London in 2007. Five years later they married in New York, where they live with their two dogs.

Cumming recently played the lead in US crime show Instinct, making history for playing a gay male lead, married to another man.
