Meghan Markle plots to become ‘politically engaged’ in move that could infuriate royals
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced earlier this month they are stepping down from senior royal duties. Instead they plan to become financially independent, whilst splitting their time between the UK and North America.
Currently the couple are living in Canada with their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
However a royal source reports Meghan wants to become “politically engaged” according to the Daily Mail.
According to the paper the source said: “The Duchess is said to be frustrated that she was forced to stay out of politics after getting engaged to Harry.
“She has strong political opinions and will now take advantage of the greater freedom she has to express them publicly.”
Any political intervention could prove controversial given Meghan’s continued membership of the British royal family.
Speaking to the Daily Mail the royal source indicated Meghan could make an intervention ahead of this year’s US Presidential election.
Before beginning her relationship with Prince Harry Meghan described Donald Trump as “misogynistic” and “divisive”.
Harry and Meghan are known to have a close relationship with former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama.

Prior to meeting Prince Harry Meghan reportedly told broadcaster Piers Morgan she held presidential ambitions as a child.
She is reported as commenting: “As a kid, I wanted to be either the president or a news broadcaster like you.”
Meghan has retained her US citizenship as well as applying for British nationality.
However her plan to spend much of the year in North America could scupper her bid for UK citizenship.
Archie, the couple’s child, holds both UK and US nationality.
Sir Simon Jenkins, formerly editor of The Times, reports Meghan has strong political interests.
He commented: “Her friends and associates affirm that she is a political animal.
“Such is her fame, she could perfectly well follow a route taken by a certain Ronald Reagan.
“She might lead the Democrats against a Republican Ivanka Trump.
“All I can say is, why not?”
Donald Trump will bid for his second term as President this November, with his Democrat rival yet to have been selected.
