Meghan Markle wedding dress: Where to buy high street versions of both wedding gowns

Meghan Markle is known for her classic style, and she didn’t disappoint when she married Prince Harry, 33, at Windsor Caste on Saturday in a bespoke Givenchy couture gown.

The custom-made creation was designed by Clare Waight Keller, who is the first female artistic director of the fashion house.

The dress featured three-quarter sleeves, a bateau neckline and a scene-stealing 16-foot veil, embroidered with flowers from the Commonwealth.

If you want to channel the 36-year-old bride in her Givenchy gown, Next is selling a similar style for £190.

This morning’s Lorraine on ITV featured a segment on how to copy the dress for less.

Fashion expert Mark Heyes recommended the Next gown and said women shouldn’t be afraid to have an outfit altered, at relatively low cost, to make it one of a kind.

“I’ve had a seamstress in this morning and this is what we’ve done,” he said as a woman modelled the dress from Next.

“This is a very important thing to remember when you’re getting ready for any special occasion – I turned it from quite a wide, round neck into a boat neck. That would cost £40 to get done,” he said.

“What it means is you can customise your dress to make it completely different.”

He teamed the dress with a veil from Blush and Ivory. “A combination of an independent wedding store and a high street chain works amazingly,” Heyes noted.

The newlywed upped the style stakes for the evening reception at Frogmore House, when she stepped out in a stunning evening gown from Stella McCartney.

The bespoke creation was made from silk crepe and featured a halter neck and figure-hugging silhouette.

JJsHouse.co.uk, which specialises in wedding gowns and special event dresses, has a very similar style. It’s currently on sale for £85, discounted from £181.

The dress is floor-length with a trumpet/mermaid silhouette and subtle beading around the neckline.

It is available in ivory, similar to Meghan’s gown, and a wide array of other colours.

This dress is available in sizes six to 28, or it can be made to order, tailored to a buyer’s custom measurements.

ASOS also offer a duplicate of Meghan’s evening dress. The pearl-trim halter fishtail maxi dress costs £45.

It is a very pale grey and features faux pearl embellishment on the neckline.

The floor-length gown also features a split skirt and button-keyhole back. The silhouette is a subtle fishtail design.

It is available in sizes four to 16 but due to ‘the Meghan effect’, many of the smaller sizes are currently out of stock.
