Meghan Markle’s royal wardrobe costs more than three times as much as the UK average house

No stranger to high end fashion as an actress, Meghan’s transition to royal life has continued to see her in expensive designer gear.

It is reported that the Duchess’s wedding dress, reception dress and evening dress totalled £434,000. In contrast, the average spend for a wedding dress in the UK is estimated at £1,500.

Furthermore, her Cartier diamond collection worn on her wedding day cost around £319,000, more than a one bed studio flat in Chelsea costing, on average, £300,000.

Data from a leading UK insurer shows that consumers have as much as £1,800 in their wardrobes per year. Megan’s estimated wardrobe cost of £750,000 represents around 400 times more.

Aaron Harpin, founder of HushHush.com, said: “It’s no surprise that the rich and famous spend a lot on their outfits, but given the attention on the Royal Family, it’s surprising how much Meghan and Harry have spent. To see that the Duchess’s dress for her engagement shoot was more than three times the average UK salary is extravagant to say the least!

“While they do a lot for the country and add a great deal to the UK economy through tourism among other things, spending nearly the equivalent of the annual salary of an 18-year-old on the National Minimum Wage on one outfit is quite frankly shocking!”
