Melania Trump: First Lady pictured with husband Donald for FIRST time since ABC interview

Speaking on the issue for the first time, she told ABC’s Tom Llamas that she wore it “for the people and for the left-wing media who are criticising me.“I want to show them that I don’t care”.

Breaking away from her classic look of high heels, Melania chose to travel comfortably in a casual ensemble for the flight to Florida.

Eschewing colours, the former fashion model wore tight grey trousers with chunky, black leather, lace-up boots.

She teemed the outfit with a navy jacket with breast pockets, buttoned sleeves and an upturned collar.

She wore a dark-coloured top underneath and carried no accessories with her.

Her hair was worn down in gentle waves and fell about her shoulders as she posed for the camera.

Melania’s wedding ring appeared to be the only item of jewellery she opted to wear.

The First Lady smiled broadly for the photographers as she stood both with Trump and to one side.

The Presidential couple held hands for the snaps, although the gesture seemed somewhat awkward as Trump held onto just the tips of his wife’s fingers.

Trump himself wore beige chinos, brown boots, a white shirt and a casual black jacket.

He held a black umbrella against the inclement weather and a red USA cap in his hand.

The President was not photographed waving but Melania held up a well-manicured hand to greet the assembled photographers.

The couple were on the South Lawn of the White House as they headed off to board Marine One for the trip south.

Melania’s casual attire comes as many noticed a drastic change to her wardrobe during her visit to African countries on her first ever international tour this month without her husband.

Despite mostly wearing heels, Melania wore flats on multiple occasions during her time in Africa. 

She wore a pair of £50 Zara snakeskin flats to visit the Museum Educator in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Melania later wore a pair of Chanel flats to visit the Presidential palace in the Egyptian capital Cairo. She even wore flats to arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Twitter users wrote about the new look. One said: “Flats are certainly more appropriate than six-inch heels! Also better for your feet when you have to walk up and down stairs, miles.” Another wrote: “Hey — didn’t know she knew how to walk in flats!”

“Melania Trump kept it more casual on day two, in a pair of budget-friendly flats,” another said.

Languages

Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.

This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.

Religion

After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.

She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka last year.

Career

Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.

Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.

Family

Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.

She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.

Charity

On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.

There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
