Melania Trump news: First Lady wears leather trench coat for speech at US State Department

Melania Trump, 48, forged her own successful career as a fashion model. She later married Donald Trump, 72, in 2005. The pair assumed their roles as President and First Lady of the United States in January 2017. These days, Melania tends to focus on her Be Best campaign as well as her First Lady duties.

Today, Melania attended the 2019 International Women of Courage awards ceremony.

Often noted for her style, the First Lady wore a green trench-coat.

The garment as double breasted, and featured a large belt at the waist.

Melania wore the item buttoned up, but seemed to be wearing a beige skirt beneath the midi number.

It’s not known where the outfit is from.

She kept her make-up look simple: opting for smokey eyes and a slick of pale pink lipstick.

During the event, Melania took to the podium to deliver a speech.

It came hours before International Women’s Day, which takes place tomorrow.

The official UN theme for this year is Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change.

On Tuesday, the First Lady completed the final day of her short Be Best tour in Las Vegas.

Melania was pictured wearing a fitted midi skirt and belt with a gold buckle.

She teamed it with a navy blouse, which had a pussy-bow neckline.

The mother-of-one also wore a pair of navy Christian Louboutin pumps.

Having given her final talk, Melania was pictured boarding an aeroplane, en route home to Washington.

She had draped a dark red and navy checked coat over her shoulders as she made her exit.

Languages

Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.

This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.

Religion

After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.

She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka last year.

Career

Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.

Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.

Family

Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.

She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.

Charity

On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.

There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
