Men In Black: International, stylised as MiB: International, stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thomspon as Agent H and Agent M respectively. Together they use high-tech weaponry to battle mischievous aliens on Earth but soon discover a major threat within their own ranks. For adults hoping to take their children to see the new Men In Black film, Express.co.uk explains all we know about the age rating.

What is the Men in Black: International age rating?

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) gives Men in Black: International a rating of 12A.

A 12A rating means: “Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12.

“No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.”

“Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child.”

As for Men in Black: International itself, the themes behind the 12A rating include moderate violence, threat, sex references, language.

The BBFC explained each of these themes in relation to the movie specifically.

Warning: mild spoilers for Men in Black: International ahead.

The BBFC wrote: “There are fight scenes in which characters exchange blows and are slammed into furniture.

“Moderate threat includes a scene in which shape-shifting aliens cause a man’s face to melt.

“There is a comic verbal reference to a woman having a “fetish” for aliens, but she denies this and refuses to “fornicate” with them.”

The BBFC added: “T are uses of ‘dick’, ‘screw’, ‘damn’, ‘pissed’, ‘bloody’, ‘butt’, ‘hell’, ‘bugger’, ‘crap’, ‘jackass’ and ‘ass’.”

There is also a scene in which a character threatens to take his own life, but this is done so a woman will accept him into her service to save him.

Common Sense Media, the American website which gives entertainment and technology recommendations for families, wrote: “The first three movies in the franchise had lots of creepy creatures, sci-fi violence, sexual references, and strong language, so, despite the new cast, you can likely expect the same here.

“But this should be a fun reboot of the beloved series for mature tweens and teens.”

The Motion Picture Association of America gave MiB: International a PG-13 rating.

F. Gary Gray, of Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious fame, directs the MiB reboot.

MiB: International’s writers are Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the pair responsible for the Iron Man script.

Joining Thompson and Hemsworth are Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Men in Black: International is out in UK cinemas on June 14, 2019.
