Men in Black: International stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as a new generation of Earth’s defenders. The fourth movie in the franchise, however, has not performed as well as expected. Despite its all-star cast and bonafide formula, the movie is heading towards ‘flop’ territory.

What is the Men in Black: International Rotten Tomatoes score?

On reviews aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, Men in Black: International has a 30 percent rating.

This is well below the 60 percent needed to be certified fresh, according to the site.

Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus reads: “Amiable yet forgettable, MiB International grinds its stars’ substantial chemistry through the gears of a franchise running low on reasons to continue.”

The first Men in Black movie, from 1997, has an impressive 92 percent rating.

Despite the success of the first film, the subsequent sequel was ‘rotten’, with a score of 39 percent.

Men in Black III, on the other hand, buoyed back up with a score of 68 percent.

Now it seems the franchise is on the back foot yet again with critics.

As of writing, there is no audience score, as the fourquel is still a day away from its release.

What is the Men in Black: International Metacritic score?

Metacritic, which offers a weighted average scoring system, gives the movie 43.

This score is based on 36 reviews and indicates mixed or average reviews.

The site also: “normalises the resulting scores (akin to “grading on a curve”), which prevents scores from clumping together.”

Unfortunately, the difference between the two in the case of MiB International is not enough to push the film into objectively good territory.

What do critics say about Men in Black: International?

There were some positive responses to the fourth Men in Black movie.

Empire wrote: “Unasked for, unnecessary but unexpectedly enjoyable.”

The Hollywood Reporter was positive about Thompson, and wrote: “This is a fine and unexpected showcase for Thompson, whose poise and composure are notable.

“This should lead to more, and hopefully varied, film roles.”

The Independent called the movie: “An enjoyable romp, which doesn’t take itself seriously at all.”

The bad reviews were, well, bad. Screen Crush called the movie: “a mediocrity in every conceivable sense.”

The Guardian wrote: “It’s time to wave the neuralyzer in the face of every executive involved and murmur softly: forget about this franchise.”

Men in Black: International is out in UK cinemas on Friday, June 14, 2019.
