Motherless Brooklyn release date, cast, trailer, plot – all you need to know

Motherless Brooklyn is a new film with a whole host of bright stars in the cast. Actor and director Edward Norton has secured some big names for the cast, including Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin and Willem Dafoe. Here is everything you need to know about Motherless Brooklyn ahead of its cinematic release.

When is Motherless Brooklyn out in cinemas?

Motherless Brooklyn is out in cinemas in the UK on December 6.

The movie has already done the rounds in terms of festivals and has been released in various countries across the world.

American viewers have been able to watch Motherless Brooklyn since November 1.

But sadly it does not seem to have picked up much traction at the box office, having made a measly $10.7million (£8.3million) worldwide.

Who is in the cast of Motherless Brooklyn?

Edward Norton, as well as being the director, plays the lead role of Lionel Essrog, a detective with Tourettes syndrome.

As well as the star, the cast is littered with famous names.

Bruce Willis plays Frank Minna, Lionel’s boss and close friend, while Gugu Mbatha-Raw is Laura Rose.

Alec Baldwin plays Moses Randolph and Willem Dafoe plays Paul Randolph, Moses’ brother.

Bobby Cannavale is Tony Vermonte, Leslie Mann plays Julia Minna and Cherry Jones is Gabby Horowitz

Alongside them, Michael K William is Trumpet Man, and Ethan Suplee is Gilbert Coney.

Also in the main cast is Josh Pais as William Lieberman and Dallas Roberts as Danny Fantl.

What is Motherless Brooklyn about?

An official synopsis from Warner Bros reads: “Set against the backdrop of 1950s New York, “Motherless Brooklyn” follows Lionel Essrog (Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome, as he ventures to solve his friend’s murder.

“Armed only with a few clues and the powerful engine of his obsessive mind, Lionel unravels closely-guarded secrets that hold the fate of the whole city in the balance.”

The movie is also Norton’s second foray into feature directing, having directed 2000’s Keeping the Faith, also starring Ben Stiller.

Losing Frank was such a shock for Lionel, and his new vow is to find out what happened to his closest ally, with the help of those who worked with him at Frank’s Private Investigation company.

Lionel finds Laura (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and discovers there is anti-gentrification work going on in Brooklyn, which may be the cause of some of the anger from higher ups, including Moses Randolph (Alec Baldwin.)

But as Lionel grows closer to Laura, he wants to protect someone new in his life while still finding out the truth.
