Movie release date coronavirus: Which movies have been delayed because of COVID-19?
There is quite the list of films which are either no longer being released or are getting postponed as production shuts down.
The first big movie to do this was Bond 25, known as No Time to Die.
When the production team announced their intentions, the statement read: “MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced today that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of No Time to Die will be postponed until November 2020.
“The film will be released in the UK on November 12, 2020 with worldwide release dates to follow, including the US launch on November 25, 2020.”
Which films have been delayed because of coronavirus?
Following this, more films began to follow suit.
A Quiet Place Part II has been delayed indefinitely, with the director, John Krasinski, sharing on Twitter: “One of the things I’m most proud of is that people have said our movie is one you have to see all together.
“Well due to the ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world around us, now is clearly not the right time to do that.
“As insanely excited as we are for all of you to see this movie … I’m gonna wait to release the film till we CAN see it all together! So here’s to our group movie date! See you soon!”
Black Widow
Mulan
Fast and Furious 9, which was trailed at the Superbowl, has also been delayed for 11 months, and will be released on April 2, 2021.
Sony also announced its intention to postpone the release of Peter Rabbi 2: The Runaway, until August 7, and more recently Marvel’s Black Widow has been postponed with no new release date confirmed.
Disney has also listed a whole host of delays, including Mulan, The New Mutants and Antlers – none of which have new release dates.
For those in production, Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been postponed, while the same can be said for the TV series, including WandaVision and Loki.
Fast and Furious has also been postponed
Rob Marshall’s new version of the Little Mermaid was supposed to start production in London, while The Last Duel starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck had already filmed a month of footage in Ireland.
Both of these projects have been postponed.
As well as these, the Elvis biopic fro Baz Luhrmann has been postponed after one of its stars Tom Hanks tested positive for the virus.
In the world of children’s films, production on the reboot of Home Alone and new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie, Shrunk, have also been postponed.
There are many more likely to be postponed or have already been so.
