NFL draft 2020 in full: Complete list of first round picks

  • NFL Draft 2020 was a virtual event this year
  • Cincinnati Bengals take Joe Burrow with No.1 pick
  • Washington Redskins take Chase Young with No.2 pick
  • Detroit Lions take Jeffrey Okudah with the No.3 pick

The NFL Draft was due to take place amid all the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas this year but, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will instead take place in a virtual format.

The Cincinnati Bengals had the number one pick this year and head coach Zac Taylor used it to take quarterback Joe Burrow.

The franchise are looking for someone to take over from Andy Dalton and Burrow impressed in his final year at LSU.

Burrow threw 60 touchdowns and recorded 5,671 passing yards in his final year at LSU. The Tigers beat seven top-ten teams and went undefeated, as they clinched the college championship in 2019.

His performances also saw him win the 2019 Heisman Trophy and after joining the Benglas it made him the third straight winner to go as an NFL number one pick, after Kyler Murray went to the Arizona Cardinals last year and Baker Mayfield went to the Cleveland Browns in 2017.

Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera held onto their No.2 pick, despite having been contacted about trading it, and took edge rusher Chase Young.

At Ohio State, Young recorded 16.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for a loss and seven forced fumbles across 12 games in 2019.

The Detroit Lions also took phone calls about trading their pick but ended up keeping it too and head coach Matt Patricia added cornerback Jeffrey Okudah to his roster with the No.3 pick.

The Lions were looking to add another cornerback to their roster after trading Darius Slay to the Philadelphia Eagles.

At Ohio State, Okudah recorded 35 total tackles, of which 29 were solo, in 2019. He also registered two force fumbles, three interceptions and nine passes defended.

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge used the No.4 pick to strengthen his offensive line and took Andrew Thomas.

And while some may question this pick, Thomas did start 13 games at left tackle at Georgia and was awarded first-team Associated Press All-American and first-team all-conference accolades in 2019.

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores added another quarterback to his roster when they took Tua Tagovailoa with the No.5 pick.

Tagovailoa’s draft place was questionable as he only managed nine games in 2019 after suffering a dislocated hip.

However, the Alabama quarterback still managed to throw 33 touchdowns for 2,840 yards, with three interceptions.

The Los Angeles Chargers also took a quarterback as head coach Anthony Lynn took Justin Herbert with the No.6 pick.

At Oregon, Herbert threw 32 touchdowns for 3,471 yards, for just six interceptions.

Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule took defensive tackle Derrick Brown with the No.7 pick.

At Auburn, Brown recorded four sacks in 2019. He also registered a total of 54 tackles, 32 solo, with 11.5 recorded as a tackle for loss.

Arizona Cardinals had the No.8 pick and head coach Kliff Kingsbury took versatile linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

While some coaches prefer a player to have one position, the Cardinals were pleased to take Simmons, who can also play as a safety, a pass-rusher and as a cornerback.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone took Doug Marrone with the No.9 pick.

At Florida, Henderson defended 11 passes in nine games in 2019 and recorded 33 tackles and a sack.

And Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski took offensive tackle Jedrick Wills with the No.10 pick.

Wills had been projected to go higher in the draft as the right-tackle had a fantastic 2019 at Alabama, where he only gave up one sack in 714 snaps.
