Peterloo runtime and age rating: How long is Peterloo? What is the age rating?
The official synopsis reads: “An epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter’s Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history.
“The massacre saw British government forces charge into a crowd of over 60,000 that had gathered to demand political reform and protest against rising levels of poverty.
“Many protesters were killed and hundreds more injured, sparking a nationwide outcry but also further government suppression.
“The Peterloo Massacre was a defining moment in British democracy which also played a significant role in the founding of The Guardian newspaper.”
How long is the Peterloo movie?
The Peterloo movie is a hefty two hours and 34 minutes.
Mike Leigh is known for his slower paced movies.
For an action movie, two and a half hours can go by in a flash.
But with a movie like Peterloo, in Leighs’ characteristic style, eking a movie out over two hours can be a challenge – and Express.co.uk found Pterloo to be plodding and forgettable.
What is the age rating for Peterloo?
Peterloo has an age rating of 12A according to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
Movies rated 2A rating have material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12.
No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.
Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child.
For Peterloo, the age rating is down to moderate violence.
The BBFC writes: “During an attack, there is the brief sight of a baby being trampled on by a horse
“There is also the sight of people being beaten, stabbed and killed with swords, some of which results in the sight of bloody detail.”
Moderate bad language is also cited by the BBFC.
In contrast, the trailer was given a PG rating, which may lead some to think the movie is suitable for younger people.
In Peterloo, Rory Kinnear plays Henry Hunt, a real-life British speaker and pioneer of working-class rights.
Maxine Peake plays Nellie, Nellie, a woman who sells pies, and mother of David Moorst’s Joseph.
They are fictional, along with Pearce Quigley as Joshua, Rachel Finnegan as Mary, Tom Meredith as Robert, and Simona Bitmate as Esther.
Peterloo is now playing in cinemas.
