Phoebe Waller-Bridge Fleabag remake: Is there going to be a Fleabag MOVIE remake?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a performer like no other, having turned her one-woman show into a hit TV series. From there, she has contributed to major movies such as No Time to Die, while also starring in huge blockbusters like Star Wars: A Solo Story. However, Fleabag fans will always hold that series close to their hearts and will be desperate to see it turn into more than the show.

Fleabag started life as a small Edinburgh Fringe show, where Waller-Bridge performed on the stage, directed by Vicky Jones.

The show went on for a long while, before becoming a TV series on the BBC.

The first series started out in a small way before it suddenly shot into the Hollywood consciousness, and has since spawned a second film and further performances of the one-woman show on the West End and Broadway.

Many have since expected Waller-Bridge to announce a movie, given she has worked on numerous other scripts, including the 25th Bond movie No Time to Die.

Having said that, Waller-Bridge has spoken about making a movie – but is it the Fleabag film?

She told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019: “I went to bed thinking, ‘I’m never going to have another idea again. Oh s**t.’

“I woke up with the vision of this film. I blatantly will end up in it.”

She has spoken out about how she does not want to appear in her shows and films again, and sadly, this movie idea has come after she “put Fleabag to bed.”

It is a real shame, but it seems Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag journey is over, at least for now.

Speaking to the LA Times after winning the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, among other awards, she said: “This just feels like the most beautiful, beautiful way to say goodbye to it.

“It does feel nice to go out on a high. You can’t get higher than this.”

However, clearly there are some more series and films to come from Waller-Bridge in the future, they just may not be Fleabag-related.

Her next project is a series which she has executive produced and has a small role in but is mainly produced by her Fleabag director, Vicky Jones.

The series is a black comedy thriller starring Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever and has seen two episodes air on HBO already.

The series synopsis reads: “Ruby Richardson walks away from her ordinary life in the suburbs to revisit her past with her college boyfriend, Billy Johnson.

“The two made a pact 17 years earlier: if either one of them texted the word “RUN” and the other replied with the same, they would drop everything and meet in Grand Central Station and travel across America together.”

Waller-Bridge plays a woman the pair meet on their journey, but sadly, with Hollywood in shutdown due to the COVID-19 crisis, we may have a little while to wait before the Fleabag star turns up in anything else.
